What is the Creative Industries Safety Passport?

The Creative Industries Safety Passport is a one day health & safety course designed specifically for workers, employed or freelance, working in film, TV, theatre and live events. It promotes a safety culture based on personal responsibility for safety. This means that it encourages delegates to be pro-active in their own safety and the safety of others.

The course is approved by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) under their Passport scheme which is a nationally recognised scheme and follows The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) syllabus guidelines as well Creative Skillset’s National Occupational Standards in Health & Safety X2, X3 and X3.5 and the BECTU/UK Theatres Code of Conduct for Get-in/ Get-outs. It is a level 2 qualification that is valid for 3 years and comes with a workbook and a robust credit card size ID card with a HoloKote finish which is tamper proof. All Safety Passport holders are registered on the IOSH central database so verification is an easy process. With so many employers asking for proof of health and safety training BECTU is providing an approved qualification that is relevant to creative industries workers.

What is the course content?

The course covers the basics a delegate needs in health & safety as well as focusing on specific hazards that come up in the creative industries.

The course is split into 5 modules:

• Introducing creative industry safety; this covers why health & safety matters, health & safety legislation, duties of employees, self employed and contractors under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, insurance, safety reps & inspectors

• Defining hazard and risk; this covers risk assessments-hazards and risks, competence, risk matrix, controlling risk, what is reasonably practicable, dynamic risk assessments & risk perceptions

• Hazards and practical control measures; this covers electricity, display screen equipment, working at height, manual handling, slips and trips, work equipment, hazardous substances & noise

• Common workplace measures; this covers working time, welfare, personal protective equipment (PPE), signs and signals, first aid, accidents, accident reporting, driving, stress, violence, lone working, alcohol & drugs and fire & the environment

• Personal responsibility for safety; this looks at how an individual can make a difference

The course uses a mix of teaching styles, including video and discussion to enhance the learning experience. Delegates can bring real issues and near miss incidents to increase the relevance of the course. All the trainers are IOSH accredited and have a wealth of knowledge and experience working in the creative industries.

The course has two assessment papers which both require a seventy percent (70%) pass mark to be eligible to receive a passport. The first is a twenty question written paper with multiple choice and written answers and the second is a spot the hazard risk assessment paper.

How Much Does It Cost?

The one day course will cost £120 and there will be a discounted rate of £90 for BECTU members. There will be an South Devon College staff & student rate of £102. This includes the training, the workbook and the Passport itself. All prices are inclusive of VAT.

Cancellation Policy

We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course date you have already booked and paid for.

Whilst we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, BECTU has a standard cancellation policy which is as follows:

• if you notify us (phone/email) 3 full days or longer before the scheduled course date you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
• for any cancellation you make that is less than 3 full days before the course date, you will be charged 50% of the total course fee with 50% refunded. This is unless you can demonstrate to us extenuating circumstances.
• if you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance you will be charged the full course fee.
• we are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being re-scheduled or cancelled.

BECTU reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.

Privacy Notice

This notice tells you about how we collect, use and store your personal information when you book on to the BECTU Creative Industries Safety Passport course (CRISP). This is an approved course by both IOSH and the Production Safety Passport scheme.

The Creative Industries Safety Passport is an approved course on the Production 'Safety Passport' scheme run by the 'Production Safety Group', made up of representatives of major UK Broadcasters, Indies, BECTU and Creative Skillset (The Sector Skills Council for Creative Media). This scheme supports mutual recognition of agreed safety training between the participants to avoid unnecessary retraining and ensure consistency.

Scope

All members and non-members who book onto a CRISP course whose personal data is collected, in line with the requirements of the GDPR.

Responsibilities

The Training Department is responsible for ensuring that this notice is made available to students prior to Prospect collecting/processing their personal data.

All staff of Prospect who interact with data subjects are responsible for ensuring that this notice is drawn to student's attention and their consent to the processing of their data is secured.

Privacy Notice

BECTU is a sector of Prospect, and provides training courses for members and non-members. In accordance with guidance issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Prospect is a “data controller” for the purposes of your personal data. Prospect is committed to protecting your privacy and complying with our obligations under the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

The data that you have provided or your company has provided is to fulfil our contractual obligations, and the processing of the data supplied by you is necessary for the performance of the contract to which you have entered into with Prospect/BECTU.

The personal data we would like to collect from you are:

The personal data we collect will be used for the following purposes:

• Administration of the online booking process
• To contact you regarding any matter arising from your booking or attendance at the course.
• To process the payment fee for the course

• To distribute a student list to the course tutor
• To keep a record of course attendance by the completion of sign in sheets
• To inform you of your assessment result
• To transfer data to IOSH for accreditation and issuing of passport card
• To Mail out passport card or replacement card
• To upload training details to database on shared website

The special categories of personal data we collect are:

We will use this data to fulfil our contractual obligations, and the processing of the data supplied by you is necessary for the performance of the contract to which you have entered into with Prospect/BECTU.

The third parties we use are as follows:

Institution of Occupational Safety & Health - IOSH

IOSH is the external organisation that oversees the verification of the quality of the delivery and assessment of the CRISP course. IOSH produce the safety passports and we will supply them with your name and photo only. If you have a complaint about the course you can contact IOSH directly. We will supply IOSH with your name and photograph for the production of the safety passport cards.

Union Learning Fund

Courses run in England are administered with the support of the Union Learning Fund (ULF). As part of the Funding requirements, the Union is obliged to collect Equality and Diversity information, wherever possible. This is anonymised and shared with the ULF. In line with the Funding requirements, this information is kept for 10 years.

Creative Skillset

The Production Safety Group has contracted Creative Skillset to manage the database of individuals who have undertaken the Crisp course through their Screenskills website. Individuals who have completed the course will have their details up-loaded to the database. However, individuals can choose who has access to their record on the website by supplying their Screenskills account details only to those they choose to give access it.

Consent

By consenting to this privacy notice you are giving us permission to process your personal data specifically for the purposes identified. Consent is required for Prospect to process both types of personal data, but it must be explicitly given. Where we are asking for sensitive personal data we will always tell why and how the information will be used.

You may withdraw you consent at any time by contacting our Data Protection Compliance Officer.

Disclosure

Prospect will pass on your data to the following third parties:

IOSH, Union Learning Fund and Skillset.

Retention Period

Your data will be retained for the following periods:

Prospect will retain specific data for 3 years

IOSH will retain your data for 3 years.

Union Learning Fund will retain data for 10 years

Production Safety Passport Scheme will retain data on the HIIVE data base for 10 years.

Your rights as a data subject

At any point while we are in possession of or processing your personal data, you, the data subject, have the following rights:

• Right of access – you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.
• Right of rectification – you have a right to correct data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.
• Right to be forgotten – in certain circumstances you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records.
• Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply to have a right to restrict the processing.
• Right of portability – you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.
• Right to object – you have the right to object to certain types of processing such as direct marketing.
• Right to object to automated processing, including profiling – you also have the right to be subject to the legal effects of automated processing or profiling.
  • Right to judicial review: in the event that Prospect refuses your request under rights of access, we will provide you with a reason as to why. You have the right to complain as outlined in clause 3.6 below.

All of the above requests will be forwarded on should there be a third party involved (as stated above) in the processing of your personal data.
